"XITY"
|
2005-2007, 11"X14" Gelatin Sliver Prints, New York
Every object on this planet is divided into molecules, every image is divided into fundamental geometrical figures such as a line,
a rectangular, a circle or so on. Especially, I focuse on a city as
an object consisting of lots of shapes having common threads among
components in a city, which is so important for me to develop the way of
communication with surroundings as an artist.

"conneXion"
|
2005-2007, 11"X14" Gelatin Sliver Prints, New York
While I walk on the streets as well as live a life, I, quite many
times, observe situations that connexions could be discovered. People
seem to have a tendency to follow invisible gravitation to be motivated not
intentionally. This is more helpful and interesting discovery for me who
want to figure out what the real interactive communication is.
Particularly, I'm interested in garbage and trashcans on the streets in
terms of a group art carried out by many people and connexion with
who are around them.

"Whatisatrip I"
|
2004, 8"X10" Gelatin Silver Prints, India
I attempted to grasp the meaning of a trip, concerning about a trip
at the same time. I have been thinking that people are always on their
own trip, even though they don't seem to be really on it, since living a life would be
also one of such a trip. Traveling in India was so much retrospective and
speculative to me that it gave me a precious lesson that traveling is
the best way communicate with not only surroundings but oneself as well.

2005, Video Essay with Music, 3'22", 320X240, QuickTime 7, Digital MPEG
Camera
BGM: Nowhere Man by the
Beatles
When I got to here, New York City, I felt the sense of a stranger,
for a while, like a nowhere man, not belonging to any part of social
class since it was
the first time to stay abroad as a student As time went by, I got used to being part of a social
position as a student which is much different from a traveler. No matter how I tried to
distinguish myself from others, I would realize that I'm also part of
them.

"Aquastic"
|
2004, Senior Exhibition Work, 4'26", 720X480, QuickTime 7, miniDV Camcorder
BGM: Pachelbel Canon
played by Gukak Seoul Saeul Gayagum Trio
I directed, edited, and shot this work with collaborating students
of a team which belonged to senior exhibition in College of Design,
Myongji University in Korea. The work was interactive visual effect work
with synchronizing the sound, somehow, visual effecting sound. Since I
was so attracted to the Korean traditional string instrument, Gayageum,
I would like to use aqua (water) as a basic material for filming
because the movement of water drops looked like the vibration of these
acoustic strings of Gayageum. Even though a drop of water is so tiny
and meanigless, it would be the water at the end.

I have been captivated to juxtaposing with more than two pictures together and
each music which fits on it synergically, I usually consider the best
approaches to audiences since cyber-space is much useful for me to test
the tastes of people.

"Hieroglyphs"
¡¡ |
2004, A Guestbook with Hieroglyphs, Mayaglyphs
Because each Hieroglyphs has its own phonetical and ideographic
characteristics, it could be used as standing alone. When users leave
posts on the Guestbook, they are urged to use a lots of Hieroglyphs and
place it specific position on the grid-board. As Hieroglyphs are
accumulated on the grid-board, these are going to make sense
either vertically or horizontally and to be collaborated with others
subconsciously in terms of a non-intended art.
